This past weekend, I preached on the idea of Christianity as a story for us to tell. Ever since I got awarded the "Best Storyteller" award in kindergarten, it's been clear to me how much I love a good story. And apparently, so does Jesus. That's why many of his teachings were in story format through parables. There is even a Jewish expression that says, “God created man because he loves stories.”
In the message, I explored Peter's story in Acts chapter two. Unpacking this text shows us three ways to engage with stories as we live out our faith today. We often make Christianity quite complicated (there is much to explore), but it's a simple message at its core.
Or, to use author John Dickson's analogy, there's a melody waiting for each of us to play.
Christ wrote a beautiful tune, which the church has often performed well, and often badly. But the melody was never completely drowned out. Sometimes it became a symphony.
